As Summer Approaches...                   so does the flower parade!

Most peonies feature shades of red, while summer flowers come in a rainbow of colors.  Many of our flowering beds are planted so that the spring, summer and fall flowers produce a continual bloom. .

The Downy Woodpecker eats foods that larger woodpeckers cannot reach, such as insects living on or in the stems of weeds. You may see them hammering at goldenrod galls to extract the fly larvae inside.

The term full shade does not mean 'no sun'.  A location is considered to be in full shade if it receives less than three hours of direct sun daily and receives filtered sun the rest of the day.  Preferably, the hours of direct sun occur in the cooler hours of the morning with filtered protection from intense sun in the late afternoon.
