Some of what we love about wintertime

Eranthus hyemalis, commonly called winter aconite, is native to Europe.  It is a late winter bloomer, before crocus that features cup-shaped, upward-facing, bright yellow, butter-cup like flowers on stalks to 3-4" tall.

The Downy Woodpecker eats foods that larger woodpeckers cannot reach, such as insects living on or in the stems of weeds. You may see them hammering at goldenrod galls to extract the fly larvae inside.

Anemone blanda, or Grecian windflower, is a colorful perennial spring bulb that produces pretty blooms with a shape and appearance similar to that of daisies.
